I’m Laura. I’m 30 years old, from South Wales, and as of earlier this year I live in the Rhymney Valley with my fiancé and our three cats. I love animals, and I’ve no doubt that without his calming influence I would have a small zoo by now.

I work 9-5 in an office job, but I’m also a qualified fitness instructor and studying to become a personal trainer. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do than help people improve their fitness and realise their goals.

While this blog is primarily about running and fitness, I also want to share some of my hobbies and passions. You can expect to see posts about the walks my fiancé and I regularly go on, food (oh, I love food!), books, some of my favourite cruelty-free products, maybe even the occasional film, and other aspects of my life.

What’s with the name?

I know, Maximum Sloth isn’t exactly the name you would expect to see attached to a health and fitness blog. So where did it come from?

The sloth bit is easy. I’ll put it plainly: I’m lazy. Plenty of people will tell you this. My parents, for a start. The teachers who despaired when I didn’t do my homework or revise for my GCSEs (it’s ok, I came out with the grades I needed). My fiancé. The pile of dishes that I still haven’t washed up from lunchtime. I wouldn’t say that the sloth is my spirit animal (cat person to the core), but having seen them up close and personal at Budapest Zoo in 2011, I did see a little of myself there.

‘Maximum effort’ is something I constantly need to remind myself when I’m working out. Whatever I’m doing, I have to keep telling myself to give it my all.

Maximum effort, Laura. Maximum attention, Laura. Don’t half-ass this, because you’ll regret it later when you wish you’d done it properly.

So there we go. A reminder to my lazy self to beat that sloth instinct, give my workouts maximum focus and effort, and hopefully a bit of inspiration for readers to do the same.
